International Projects Admin Guide

The International Projects Administrative Guide provides resources for faculty, staff and students to plan and implement international sponsored projects, with a focus on activities that will occur at a foreign location. The guide highlights:
  • Issues that may impact how an international project is budgeted
  • University of Washington policies and guidelines related to international work
  • Checklists, charts and contracts to use in planning, budgeting and implementing
The guide provides information and tools in four sections:
   1. Planning: Highlights issues that may need to be considered in preparing a proposal and budget, such as compliance with foreign and U.S. laws.

   2. Implementing: Practical assistance for issues that come into play once a proposal has been funded.

   3. Travel & Safety: University resources to support travelers.

   4. Tools. All of the tools referenced in the guide.

The tools below provide a good overall starting point for developing an international proposal and budget.
Planning an International Sponsored Project Checklist.
This checklist highlights 14 key topics that are commonly encountered in planning an international sponsored activity. For each topic, there is a link to a section of the guide that provides more detail.

Budget Development Checklist.
This checklist can be used to identify costs to include in an international budget. It provides a UW determination of allowability as a cost on a federal budget and lists the associated UW budget code.
