Being a Mentee

To be a mentee you must:

  • Be a current permanent employee in  Financial Management or Strategy Management
  • Be open to new ideas and feedback
  • Commit to a year long program
  • Attend one day of training with your mentor
  • Meet with your mentor at least once a month
  • Complete an exit survey

Program benefits for the mentee include: 

Program benefits for the mentee include being able to partner with someone to support your growth and development.  Mentees will receive advice and ideas on career development and advancement from an experienced UW employee.  Mentees will gain networking opportunities, improved communication skills and enhanced diversity awareness and training.

Being a Mentor

Program benefits for the mentor include:

Improving leadership skills, learning about diversity in F2, learning new methods for effective communication, specialized training and the satisfaction of helping another grow and succeed.

Volunteering to mentor demonstrates an exceptional commitment, but don’t feel bad if you are not initially matched with a mentee. The mentoring program has approximately three times as many mentors as mentees. It’s not personal, not all mentors are matched. Unmatched mentors remain in the mentor pool for future mentoring opportunities.

Mentor/Mentee Training Includes: 

This is a great time to get to know your mentor/mentee, share experiences, explore values, and establish goals for the relationship. In addition to growing the mentoring relationship, the session will include a section on diversity awareness.
