Strategy & Metrics
Our Purpose
The Finance & Facilities Metrics & Reporting team helps F2 units improve through a coordinated strategy and operations framework. When a unit understands – and can quantify – where its strengths are and where improvements can be made, it can target efforts to streamline processes, use resources efficiently, and provide better service to its customers.
In a highly decentralized environment like UW, we serve to integrate F2 units’ strategy execution so that the 1,500-employee-strong organization is moving in the same direction. We take both a “top down” and a “bottom up” approach. The Senior Vice President and F2's Associate Vice Presidents (AVPs) determine direction for the organization given the University's overall mission and goals. F2 is an organization of many businesses -- custodial services, real estate leasing, debt financing, mailing services, and payroll, to name just a few. We work with all groups to establish protocols, standards, best practices, and measures that help advance, account and align the F2 organization.
Our Work
Using the Balanced Scorecard methodology and LEAN principles, we support units in creating strategy maps, setting objectives; determining strategic, operational and tactical measures; analyzing and reporting performance; and determining improvement initiatives. We build systems and processes to help gather, analyze and report on F2-wide measures and other information. We coordinate and communicate measures and performance data for all F2 units, support the budget process, and produce and "F2 Operational Dashboard" each quarter.
Strategy Maps are a one-page, future-focused roadmap.
Measurements
We consolidate over 500 measurements that represent a variety of groups and organizations within F2. Please contact LuAnn Stokke or Tom Phillips for F2-wide measurements, and the respective coordinators below for measurements within their departments.
Collaboration
We meet regularly with Metrics Coordinators from Financial Management, Treasury, Internal Audit, Facilities Services, and the Capital Projects Office, partnering with the Ogranizational Effectiveness Initiative metrics specialist, to accomplish strategy and metrics work for F2. See the Organization Charts page for more information.
