Print Manangement
Date of Lean workshop:
November 30th and December 1st, 2010
Problem Statement / Background:
The University of Washington has copiers and printers throughout campus, estimated at 1,600 copiers and more than 12,000 printers. Many of the copiers are multi-functioning machines which can copy and print; some have fax and scan-to-email capabilities. Copier and printer purchases are generally decided by the departmental administration; no continuity or standardization exists between departments, purchase orders are issued for each transaction. In addition, experience shows that many machines are underutilized. Invoices discrepancies are common and waste staff time in campus departments and Purchasing . All equipment is using space and electricity throughout the day.
Goals / Objectives
· Reduce equipment by 25%
· Reduce paper use by 30%
· Reduce cost to UW by 25%
· Reduce invoice discrepancies by 75%
· Reduce energy use of copiers and printers by 50%
· Security must be optimal
