Graduate Operating Fee

 

Definition/Background:

Graduate Operating Fee is equal to tuition less building fee and student activity fees. A Graduate Operating Fee "waiver" is the process by which non-resident tuition differential is waived. Graduate operating fee waivers are issued to a limited number of graduate students by the Graduate School.

Applies to:

  • Grants, contracts and gifts (budget type 05 and 06)

Process:

  • Personnel Action form
  • Operating Fee/waivers processed through Student Database system

Department responsibilities:

  • Allowable?
  • Full-time?
  • Submit Personnel Action form
  • Choose appropriate salary schedule

GCA responsibilities:

  • Selective review for allowability on grants

Helpful hints:

  • Submit PAF by Tuition deadline for insurance coverage (for eligible students)
  • Include Graduate Operating Fee on budget the RA will be paid on at tuition disbursement date
  • RA salary and Graduate Operating Fee cannot be split
