Content Management Systems
Automating site creation and maintenance
It wasn't long ago that anyone on campus who owned a website required a dedicated staff of skilled individuals to publish and manage content on their site. Times have changed with the recent growth in popularity of content management systems (CMS). On the UW campus, there are growing numbers of organizations taking advantage of the incredible flexibility and feature sets that the current batch of CMS's offer. These feature sets include dynamic management of navigation and content, user management, tools for animation, and plug-ins and module extensibility.
Although building a website with a CMS backend requires additional work up front, the payoff is almost immediate. Site updates that often would take days to implement on a "static" site can happen in minutes, with a CMS doing the heavy lifting.
