The goal of the Capital Projects Office is to make sure all projects meet the goals of the University, are completed on time, within budget and with high design and construction quality.
CPO Offers services for small projects through Design Services and the Small Projects Delivery Team. Design Services has experience in building remodels, laboratories, classrooms, auditoriums and offices. They offer the following services: interior design, architectural design, mechanical/electrical engineering, way finding and signage, ADA survey and mapping, as-build record documentation, floor plans/lease areas and move management.
For larger projects over $10 million, the General Construction/Construction Manager (GC/CM) process may be utilized. This process secures the general contractor earlier in the process and enables them to be more involved with the design phase of the project. Using information from the GC/CM early in the design phase can reduce costs, save time later in construction and reduce the potential for change orders.
The length of time varies for each project due to many factors, ranging from the size of the project to the number of regulatory issues involved. CPO will help determine the best way to acheive a successful project.
Once the project begins, CPO's fee generally follows the state Office of Financial Management guidelines based on the project size. Typically, the fee ranges from 3-10% of the total project cost. (Larger projects have a lower fee percentage.)
